Our Story

Welcome to Ross & Co! I'm Julie Ross and after nearly 10 years of running large dot-com era marketing teams for a fantastic enterprise tech company, I took a leap and started my own practice. Simple goal: Apply the for-profit technology and marketing experience to a broader range of clients, including some in humanitarian relief. I'd had the opportunity to live across the USA & internationally. That nurtured the observer in me to study cultural patterns, affinity processes and most importantly, people.  I use this in my work every day as I translate messages and images to really connect with clients and their markets. In the end, it always comes down to telling a truthful, compelling story.

There's been an "open for business"  shingle hung out ever since and it's opened the door to meeting loads of great colleagues along the way.

Lessons from Marketing in the Global Hi-Tech World:

The rigor of director-level experience in high-tech -- managing staff around the globe and multi-million dollar marketing budgets -- was phenomenal in exposing me to the possibilities of what all can be done in marketing and the degrees of sophistication and science that can be applied to marketing. Beginning as a startup and riding that wave through exponential growth meant long early days of wearing every hat in marketing with budget-conscious guerrilla tactics. By the end, it was all the experience of planning, recruiting, hiring and managing the teams to expand fast enough to meet market demand. The most influential part was being constantly challenged and supported to meet the expectations of the amazing mentors around me and to always have an answer when my CEO would say: "OK that's great, but are you thinking and planning for what's going to break next as we grow?" Always anticipate the next need.

The biggest marketing lesson -- how to stretch a budget as far as it can go off a single investment. When you work in the non-profit world, every donor dollar is precious, hard won, and its use is scrutinized to the letter. Making smart marketing choices is critical and the stakes are always high.
